Guest Blog: Jay-Z’s Newly Renovated 40/40 Club

From our friends at Nitetables

Last week Jay-Z made headlines when daughter Blue Ivy — his first child with wife Beyoncé — came into the world. Now the music mogul is hours away from another newsworthy event: the rebirth of his upscale sports lounge, The 40/40 Club, following a reported $10 million makeover.

The reopening of the West 25th Street hotspot, which now features twice the amount of TVs it did before (including an eye-popping, nine-panel video wall), couldn’t come at a better time, with New York sports fans still celebrating the Giants’ playoffs victory over the Packers. With 40/40 opening its doors to the public on January 19, the coming weekend promises to be a busy one for the club, when Eli Manning and Big Blue takes on the San Francisco 49ers in the battle for the NFC title.

But Giants fans who want to watch the game in high style needn’t stand in line outside 40/40 for a seat and prime-viewing spot. Starting Friday, January 20, NiteTables will be taking online reservations for the high-stakes game, which takes place on Sunday, January 22, at 6:30 p.m.; customers can reserve a table by guaranteeing a mininum spend or selecting one of our package deals. In addition, customers can also reserve tables and privates rooms for other upcoming sporting events as well as birthdays, bachelor parties and “just because” evenings out. (For assistance with online reservations, please call 212-901-2633.)

Patrons will marvel at all of the luxurious new details, from the six levels of tables situated stadium-style (all the better for catching the action opposite on the video wall) and wrap-around catwalk to the stunning, illuminated amber resin bar and dramatic chandeliers. Things will sound better too: A small-arena Meyer sound system was upgraded to the tune of $1.2 million. The club’s four VIP rooms — available for private parties —also received facelifts. Jay-Z’s Lounge, for instance, is being touted as a club within a club; it can now fit 100 people and boasts a billiards table, multiple TV screens and iPod docking stations.

And the food has been taken up a notch too. New executive chef Mike Shand has transformed the menu, which now features some stepped-up versions of pub grub, such as Shand’s signature wings, which he salts and fries, then tosses in boiled hot sauce and butter before dipping in dry seasoning.) Diet-conscious folks and foodies will appreciate the new selection of sophisticated bar bites (think turkey sliders), haute dinner choices (crab cakes, lobster) and multiple salad options.

Of course, Jay-Z’s favorite Ace of Spades champagne will be represented in grand style, thanks to a dazzling bottle display by the bar.

Before the public gets a glimpse, Jay-Z will join part-owner Alex Rodriguez, along with fellow Yankee C.C. Sabathia and Giant wide receiver Victor Cruz for a VIP party on Jan. 18. The big question, of course, is whether Beyoncé will take a break from baby duty to join her hubby on the red carpet. Check back in with NiteTables for all the scoop from the big bash!
